Men on Board

Men on Board is a board gaming podcast where each episode will focus on a particular category within the hobby. The categories will be anything from a mechanic, to a theme, to a particular designer or publisher. Each episode will usually focus on two games from the category and contain a discussion of each as well as some compare and contrasting between them. Also, every episode will include a discussion that pulls back and looks at a more broad view about the board gaming hobby.

Who We Are

Aaron

Aaron is an omni-gamer who enjoys playing something for the first time and is pleasantly surprised when he gets to play a game he enjoys ever again. His favorite games include Sentinels of the Multiverse, Colosseum, Twilight Imperium, Arcadia Quest, & Sleuth. He started this podcast because he enjoys talking to his friends about games. When not gaming or podcasting, he enjoys arguing with people, backpacking throughout the Appalachian mountains, and spending entirely too much money on food. His biggest fan (and the podcast's biggest benefactor) is his husband, Isaac.

Josh

Josh has been playing card games since his earliest memories and has gotten much more heavily involved with board games in the last 5 years. Self-categorized as a selective omni-gamer, his interests are generally dictated by his moods, and tend to shift from month to month. He is generally just as happy crawling through a dice-ridden dungeon, as he is lying to his friends whenever there’s a hidden role involved, or feeling the elegant stress of card games that involve seemingly peaceful groves of trees, while possibly calculating some stock options in colonial Africa. He loves to travel and lived several years overseas in New Zealand, he loves the outdoors, nature, cooking, gardening, and can occasionally be spotted riding around the streets of Pittsburgh in his underwear on the last Thursday of the month. Josh lives with his partner Chris, who will generally indulge his love of games.

Jameson

Jameson won't shut up about wargaming. He puts most of his hobby bandwidth into tabletop miniatures games like 30k, Frostgrave, and Dropfleet Commander. Nevertheless, he does play lots of board games, though he dislikes learning new ones and hates teaching even more. He prefers games that reward improvisation over long-term planning, and agnostic efficiency over system mastery (because he easily forgets things). His other habits involve zoos, audiobooks, and/or gin.

Mat

Mat is the ultimate Euro-gamer and will probably be found dead in a pile of wooden resource cubes. Other ways to get his attention are anything involving deduction or having to lie and cheat to his friends. Be warned, if you suggest he play Settler if Catan, you're going to be banned.

Matt is the ultimate "Ameritrash" gamer. He is always looking for games where he can fight the other players and cause as much drama as possible. When he is not plotting the best way to destroy another player's game you can find him playing his favorite game, Ticket to Ride. Outside of board games he spends the majority of his free time playing video games and listening to a ton Broadway musicals.
